We would like to apologise

Today got off to a bad start when both of us struggled to sleep and so we gave up and started the day earlier than planned. This extra time allowed us to drift and it was rush to get to the station to make the train to Durham. The train left on time after that not much went right for Transpennie express as over the loud speaker all we heard were apologies for cancelled and late trains. We were affected by our train running so late it got cancelled 3/4 of the way through the trip. We were told to get of and get the next train approx 3 later but they forgot to announce it was on a different platform luckily we followed some locals and got on the train and made Durham. As we had booked the return train for 6.15 we had a whole day to fill in so decided to take the 4.15 castle tour which need Pre booking. At the booking office we got accosted by an elderly man telling us all about Durham we almost had to be rude to get away. This along with the train setback meant we misssed the 10.30 Cathedral guided tour but this was a blessing as it meant we joined the 11 and were taken around by Lillian. She was a tiny elderly lady who is one of the senior guides but everyone said she is the best and she took an excellent tour. A quick cup of tea and a phenomenal scone with cream was needed before the open treasure exhibition. A study of the lego model was made then we wandered aimlessly till 4.15 where Rupert a 2nd year uni student took us on a tour of Durham Castle - which is now used by the uni and about 200 students actually live in it. We then headed back to the train station about 40 mins early luckily our train was cancelled and was only about 10 minutes late. Durham was a pretty city and we had a great day but are a touch tired and tomorrow sees a move to Liverpool.
