Searching.... For trains, the Hotel and Elliott Street

Today we bade farewell to Manchester. Lasting memories of Manchester include microbladed eyebrows and a weird tan shade of foundation on 90 percent of women, lots of police some with big guns and really bad Christmas markets but we had a great time bar the trains. Trains have become the bain of our existence. Today we needed to catch a train across Manchester to change to our Liverpool train. This train was late but we arrived with 4 minutes to spare to discover our connecting train was running 34 minutes late due to a crew member arriving late. Once again just about every train was having a timing issue! Hardly surprising they cancelled our train so we had to catch one an hour later. Finally we arrived at Liverpool to a chilly damp day to discover the flagstone style pavements are not designed for suitcases. Goggle maps had made finding the hotel look easy - it wasn't. We may have walked a tad further over the difficult streets than required but finally we arrived. The hotel has a gorgeous Christmas tree will take a pic tomorrow and we have a huge room - Maree has already made it look like a tip. After the Google map debacle we downloaded the directions to walk to the Cathedral this also was a fail when we couldn't find the required street - twice we needed to find Elliot Street we aren't sure it exists. Probably by more foidluck than good map reading skills we found the Cathedral  It's not the most attractive building from the outside but it is amazing inside. We headed up the tower where we had a 360 degree view of Liverpool unfortunately it was chilly and very blustery and due to the architecture style hard to get good pics. On the downward trip we stopped off to see the embroidery exhibition of some of the cathedral collection. This was amazing we may have been the only ones visiting today who thought this as 6 other groups of people walked in and basically left. After yet another late lunch we wandered round for a closer look at the cathedral the Lady Chapel was a particular highlight. Walker Art Gallery was next on the list once again we had Google directions and we were hoping to find Elliot Street again alas again we failed. We did stumble upon a great bombed church so a quick few pictures needed to be taken and we then just backed ourselves to find the gallery which worked. The highlight of the visit was Rossetti's Dantes Dream much bigger than we expected but stunning and some great details. On recommendation we visited the next door Library a total juxtaposition of a building traditional outside but contemporary inside. It features a stunning central staircase and roof details. Wandering around we fou d an exhibition on punk music - Maree is nailing the random music exhibitions - in one of the rooms they had historic books in class cases with punk singles displayed. Fairly steady light rain - the worst we have experienced - accompanied us home which we found on our own without getting lost.
